İtibar Puanı:

English language proficiency tests are essential for non-native speakers who aspire to pursue an academic or professional career in English-speaking countries. Two of the most popular and widely accepted tests are IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Both tests assess the English language skills of non-native speakers in terms of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. However, there are several differences between IELTS and TOEFL that test takers should consider.

Firstly, IELTS is offered in two formats, Academic and General Training, whereas TOEFL only has one format. The Academic format is for students who wish to attend an academic institution in an English-speaking country and measures academic English language skills, while the General Training format is for people who want to work or migrate to English-speaking countries and focuses on practical language usage in everyday life.

Secondly, IELTS has a wider vocabulary range as it uses British English spellings and idiomatic expressions, while TOEFL uses American English spellings and expressions. Therefore, IELTS test takers should have a good grasp of British English to perform well on the test.

Thirdly, IELTS listening and speaking tests are conducted face-to-face with an examiner, while TOEFL uses computer-based tests with recorded lectures and questions. This means that IELTS test takers have the opportunity to ask the examiner for clarification, which can be an advantage for those who struggle with listening and speaking skills.

Lastly, IELTS scores are graded on a scale of 1-9, with 9 being the highest score, while TOEFL scores are graded on a scale of 0-120. Some universities and employers have specific score requirements for either test, so test takers should check the individual requirements of their chosen institution or employer.

In conclusion, both IELTS and TOEFL have their unique features, and choosing which test to take depends on individual circumstances and needs. Nevertheless, both tests are highly recognized and accepted globally, and achieving high scores can significantly enhance one's academic and professional prospects.
